Moenjo Daro
Behind the mystorious name is an amazing reality: an almost 5,000-year-old archaeological site, covering an area of 97 hectares. Il was built around 2500 B.C. on the flood plains of the lndus in what is now Pakistan and is the most spectacular manifestation of the first high flowering of South Asian culture.
Like the many other settlements of the lndus Valley Civilization, Moenjodaro was built completely of clay bricks, a material hardly suitable to withstanding the influences of the climate. For more than fiiteen years, Pakistan has been working hard, with the help of UNESCO, to try to halt the rapidly advancing decay of this unique cultural heritage.
