Multiethnic week - Celebrating Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development

The UNESCO Club “Youth cultural club of FON University” from Skopje, in cooperation with the National Commission for UNESCO of The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is organizing a multiethnic week at FON University from 11 to 13 May 2011. The main objective of this activity is to give an opportunity to the citizens of academia to discover cultural diversity, to enhance the multiethnic dialogue in the country and to show that it can be improved through mutual work and cooperation.

The first day is focused on creative art workshop entitled “Colors of my country” and debate on cultural diversity with participation of students and UNESCO Clubs all over the country. The second day will be dedicated to a workshop for handmade jewelry where students will make their own jewelry using motifs from all ethnic groups that live in the country. The last day will feature a panel discussion on the topic “Cultural diversity - reality or a goal for the future?”. It will gather young people, educators and representatives of civil society.

The event will be attended by the Spanish Ambassador in the country (H.E. Fernando de Galainena, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and the National Commission for UNESCO of The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Invited panelists are respected professors from the country, including among them Dr. Nano Ruzin and Dr. Mersel Biljali. Mr. Dzabir Derala will represent the civil society sector as a president of the NGO “CIVIL”. On behalf of UNESCO Venice Office through its participation in the UN Joint Programme, “Enhancing Inter-ethnic Community Dialogue and Collaboration”, Ms. Zojka Naskova, UNESCO National Professional Officer for the Joint Programme, will welcome the participants.

This activity is implemented in the framework of the UN Joint Programme "Enhancing Inter-ethnic Community Dialogue and Collaboration" financed by the Spanish Government through the Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund (MDG-F).
