The fonds comprises documents from the Sociedad de Accionistas para la construcción y empresa de un teatro called the Teatro Solís Corporation after its construction The collection consists of minutes resolutions posters programmes photographs plans reports actions cash books press clippings and correspondence from 1840 to 1937 Documents reflect performing arts development in the country and the Río de la Plata Considering that the Teatro Solís is one of the oldest theatrical institutions on the continent this collection is an invaluable source of information for analysing the founding movements of the region´s performing arts Along with the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires Argentina and the Teatro Municipal de Santiago Chile the Solís has been a centre of reference for the major companies that have visited the region since the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th The organisational and managerial aspects contained and detailed in the existing documentation form an invaluable set of unpublished sources for the work of researchers and knowledge of the different audiences related to the performing arts
