These 334 pictographic records which include maps documents drawings and illustrations from the 16th to 18th centuries bring together data characterized by a marked indigenous influence The records include preHispanic representations and hieroglyphs that demonstrate the great richness deep symbolism and meanings that continue to be the subject of interdisciplinary studies Their value lies in the fact that they are paradigmatic documents in understanding the worldview of several indigenous cultures that populated the American territory in the 16th 17th and 18th centuries and left a legacy of ethnic plurality in Mexico
