Join a growing community of practices on Nature-based-Solutions to reduce disaster risks
Naturebased Solutions are solutions inspired by nature to reduce risks of natural hazards while providing environmental social and economic benefits UNESCO and partners have developed an open access platform GeoIKP to gather and share comprehensive knowledge about NatureBased Solutions and are now inviting people to share their experiences through its new Citizen Stories GeoIKP was developed through the OPERANDUM project an EUfunded project implemented by 26 partners from all over the world including UNESCO who research NatureBased Solutions to adapt rural and natural territories to the impacts of rising extreme weather events The platform gives access to all of the results derived from the project and to bring awareness and foster the cocreation of naturebased solutions NBS as a vehicle for transformational change It serves as a hub for the growing NBS community to share information tools data and experiences to reduce hydrometeorological hazards and address related societal challenges in rural and urban areas It caters to both advanced users with a professional interest as well as firsttime visitors without any prior knowledge of naturebased solutions offering rich and varied information for every type of stakeholder scientific data for researchers real examples of cocreation processes for media and associations learning tools for citizens best practices for policy makers and even a hub for finding partners and opportunities for business and investors The newly launched Citizen Stories of GeoIKP gives a voice to vulnerable affected or concerned citizens to share personal experiences of how and why they started applying naturebased solutions to their areas and to inspire others to take action The citizen stories represent a growing knowledge repository for anyone interested or engaged in grassroots solutions to climate change
