Residency at the Associazione Balletto Classico, Reggio Emilia, Italy (9 months)

The host and partner institution: the Associazione Balletto Classico (ABC) has been based in Reggio Emilia, of the Emilia Romagna region, since 1978. ABC views classical dance as a form of cultural and artistic expression which transcends social and national boundaries. It set up a company which performs all year round in Italy and abroad, and a professional dance school which is directed by internationally renowned artists Liliana Cosi and Marinel Stefanescu.

Facilities provided: participation in the company's classical dance classes and performances as well as those within the school's advanced programme (six days a week). Character classes are also offered.

Nature of the bursary: round trip travel, board and lodging at ABC's boarding school for nine months. Artist must provide their health insurance.

Dates of the residency: beginning either September 15 or 20 October 2002.

Eligibility: classical dancers under the age of 25 of demonstrated ability and commitment, with a diploma from a classical dance academy, a professional classical dance school or a similar institution. Working knowledge of Italian, French or English required.

How to apply: using the application form supplied in this publication, apply directly to ABC by sending a curriculum vitæ indicating size and weight, a recent photo in a dance costume, a statement of intent, two reference letters and a video tape (VHS PAL) of recent performances containing 2-3 exercises at the bar, in the middle, adage and pirouette, small and big jumps, small battery, points for girls, diagonal or manège and one or two variations. The dancers must be easily identifiable and by themselves. The tape must be in good condition and rewound (maximum length 20min). A recent medical certificate of good health is also required.
