The host and partner institution: English National Ballet School was established in 1988 at Markova House, the headquarters of English National Ballet. In 1995 the School moved into its own premises in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Every effort is made to assist students with auditions. Graduates have obtained contracts with many major international companies.

Facilities provided: full participation in courses offered by the School, including lectures in history of dance, anatomy, art, music and drama. Possibility to perform not only in School productions but also with English National Ballet.

Nature of the bursary: round trip travel, accommodation in a supervised hostel, living expenses.

Dates: September 2002 - July 2003.

Eligibility: classical dancers between the ages of 16 and 18, from Europe, Asia, America or Africa, having completed their secondary professional education. Entry to the School is by audition and selection is based not only on the talent and ability of the candidate but also on their physical suitability for a career in classical ballet. Working knowledge of English required.

How to apply: apply directly to the English National Ballet School by requesting an application form. The school requires photographs and a short video (VHS) in a ballet class to demonstrate a not too choreographed barre showing feet, extensions and ports de bras bending forward and backward and enchainments in the centre to include pirouettes and penchée arabesque in adage (Girls only), allegro with assembles, petit batterie, one grand allegro and a pointe work (Girls only). Candidates may show a variation or short section from a performance but this is not essential. The tape must be in good condition and rewound (maximum length 20 min).
