Dr Sanz shared the outcomes of her recent mission to Aswan within the framework of the project “Improved Accessibility and Presentation of Cultural Sites in Egypt, including the World Heritage sites”. Dr Waziri and Dr Sanz discussed how to improve the presentation of World Heritage site “Nubian Monuments from Abu Simbel to Philae” in Aswan through enforcing the application of the MoTA Guidelines on the preservation and interpretation of cultural heritage in Egypt and its recently produced manual with UNESCO support, updated promotional and training in the UNESCO World Heritage Programme for the guides.

Accompanied by UNESCO Cairo Culture Team, Dr Sanz visited the MoTA Documentation Centre. The Documentation Centre serves as an important repository of the documents and records of the archaeological research and excavations since around the 1956.  The Centre also hosts the documents, maps, and photos related to the UNESCO Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia (1960-1980).

Both parties agreed to join forces to explore possibilities of developing online archives uniting the Nubian archives currently located at different sites and, the Nubia Museum in Aswan, UNESCO Archives in Paris and potentially other places in the member states that contributed to the Campaign in order to ensure access and availability to this important documentary heritage for further academic research and collaboration.
