Kuwait strengthens its extrabudgetary support to UNESCO
On 20 November, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova and the Ambassador of Kuwait Ali Ahmad Al Tarrah signed a Framework Agreement on voluntary contributions, under which USD 3.4 million will be provided to UNESCO to support its activities in the field of quality education for disabled persons, capacity-building in world heritage and youth programmes.
Ms Bokova expressed her appreciation to the State of Kuwait for the timely support to UNESCO’s activities and underlined the high priority that education for disabled persons represents for the Organization. “The Center of Excellence to be established in Kuwait for quality education in favour of disabled persons will have a crucial impact on all regions”, said Ms Bokova. “Your interest in youth and the need to provide them with more opportunities is much appreciated”. She also voiced her gratitude to Kuwait for having supported the recently held Youth Forum as well as some planned activities in the field of World Heritage.
Ambassador Al Tarrah expressed Kuwait’s strong and continued support to UNESCO.
