The project conducted by the authorities of the Lao People's Democratic Republic aims at organizing a three-day seminar to present and explain to key national officials the practical implications of ratifying the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. These officials will then have the necessary information to mobilize the relevant national organizations and institutions, with a view of fostering programs and activities designed to help the country meet its post-ratification commitments.

Results

Improved coordination among decision-makers and officials from five ministries to better understand and implement the 2005 Convention at the national level.

Main activities

  • Organizing a three-day seminar in Vientiane and training 20 officials to have a better understanding of the Convention;
  • Identifying strategies for the prompt implementation of the Lao PDR’s commitments under the Convention;
  • Engaging in the promotion of the Convention by proposing relevant programmes and activities; and
  • Organizing two awareness-raising media campaigns – before and after the seminar – by the media, in order to publicize the event and its outcomes.
