Context/Overview

The UNESCO-Aschberg programme offers direct assistance to member states to further the implementation of the 2005 Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, as well as the 1980 Recommendation on the Status of the Artist. It aims to strengthen national legislation and policies for artists and culture professionals, support capacity building on artistic freedom, improve monitoring of the social and economic rights of artists, and advance advocacy and ownership over reforms.

Technical assistance and funding will go to the following Member States in 2022: Cabo Verde, Costa Rica, Gambia, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Palestine, Peru, Romania, Seychelles, Tunisia, and Uganda.
