The Florid Recollection, a historical speech and natural, material, military and political account of the Reyno of Guatemala
This work stands out for having been written by a native secular captain of the militia landowner perpetual ruler and mayor who taking as reference the chronicles written by authors of the sixteenth century wrote an original work in the seventeenth century which describes the cultural and natural richness of Guatemala territory which he recognized as his homeland This places him as a precursor of the creoles that a century later would establish a distance with the peninsular Spaniards defining a sense of identification with their country of birth It is the first chronicle in the region that uses a method oriented to the principles that historical science would develop later that is a story based on documentary sources relating to indigenous peoples at the arrival of the Spaniards There exist two original copies of this work one in the Library of the Palace of Madrid and another in the General Archive of Central America They are two different and unique manuscriptscolumn The Guatemala Manuscript includes a second part which contains 16 additional books to those in the Madrid Manuscript
