Dia Internacional da Educação
UNESCO is dedicating the International Day of Education celebrated on 24 January 2024 to the crucial role education and teachers play in countering hate speech, a phenomenon which has snowballed in recent years with the use of social media, damaging the fabric of our societies.
The world is seeing a surge of violent conflicts paralleled by an alarming rise of discrimination, racism, xenophobia, and hate speech. The impact of this violence transcends any boundary based on geography, gender, race, religion, politics, offline and online. An active commitment to peace is more urgent today than ever: Education is central to this endeavor, as underlined by the UNESCO Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development. Learning for peace must be transformative, and help empower learners with the necessary knowledge, values, attitudes and skills and behaviours to become agents of peace in their communities.
UNESCO would like to dedicate the fifth edition of this International Day to all the girls and women in Afghanistan, who have been denied their right to learn, study and teach. The Organization condemns this serious attack on human dignity and on the fundamental right to education.

O sexto Dia Internacional da Educação será celebrado em 24 de janeiro de 2024 com o tema "aprender para uma paz duradoura". O mundo está assistindo a uma onda de conflitos violentos, paralelamente a um aumento alarmante de discriminação, racismo, xenofobia e discurso de ódio. O impacto dessa violência transcende qualquer fronteira baseada em geografia, gênero, raça, religião, política, offline e online. Um compromisso ativo com a paz é mais urgente hoje do que nunca: a educação é fundamental para esse esforço, conforme destacado pela Recomendação da UNESCO sobre Educação para a Paz, Direitos Humanos e Desenvolvimento Sustentável. A aprendizagem para a paz deve ser transformadora e ajudar a capacitar os alunos com o conhecimento, os valores, as atitudes, as habilidades e os comportamentos necessários para que se tornem agentes da paz em suas comunidades.
