Dancing in the Mists. Gender and youth in unequal environments in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Danzar en las Brumas_Montevideo_project

Based on the new approach called for in the 2030 Agenda, this work attempts to combine academic knowledge, human understanding and social action. Thus, the keys to transformation are articulated by combining data in a comprehensive manner, from a gender and generational perspective. From the collective work presented here, diverse data emerge that confirm the unjust realities experienced by young people in Latin America, especially women.

"Dancing in the Mists" is not only a report on gender and youth in the context of inequalities in Latin America and the Caribbean. "Dancing in the Mists" has the vocation of a platform for action, inspiring alternatives, in the hope of achieving sustained transformations for the achievement of justice and equity in the region.

A platform for action

Young women in Latin America and the Caribbean face cumulative and intertwined disadvantages in terms of their effective access to education, health, work and political participation. In addition, young women also experience vulnerabilities in the face of phenomena such as migration and climate change, among others. In turn, the COVID-19 pandemic has had economic and social consequences throughout the region, aggravating the already existing inequalities affecting youth.

"Danzar en las brumas, Género y juventudes en entornos desiguales en América Latina y el Caribe" [Dancing in the Mists. Gender and youth in unequal environments in Latin America and the Caribbean] is an original work of social research, daily life and policies, in a joint effort between UNESCO, El Colegio de México and CLACSO.
