The Earth Network: connecting sites with experts to boost biodiversity

The Earth Network is a project designed by UNESCO with the support from the Republic of Italy. It mobilises experts from across the spectrum of environmental knowledge, to help countries and communities achieve their biodiversity goals. The Earth Network brings together a roster of scientific experts ready to be dispatched to UNESCO sites.

This helps countries overcome ecological challenges and contributes to safeguarding Intangible Culture Heritage elements. The Earth Network acts as a matchmaking tool: it connects UNESCO-designated sites facing ecological challenges with leading scientific experts who can help them find tailor-made solutions. It generates knowledge through scientific missions and provides training in conservation and the sustainable use of biodiversity and the ecological restoration of ecosystems in various formats, such as workshops, webinars and MOOCs.
