Fostering Local Sustainable Development in the Economic Area of the SUAPE Industrial and Harbour Complex

This project continues the good results of another partnership signed in 2015, a cooperation agreement entitled Pacto SUAPE Sustentável. It continues with the previous agreement's primary objective to develop activities to support consolidating a socio-environmental responsibility policy for the port region of the SUAPE industrial and harbour complex (Complexo Industrial Portuário Governador Eraldo Gueiros, Pernambuco). Its particular emphasis is on the Armando de Holanda Cavalcanti Metropolitan Park, which has a high tourist potential and architectural heritage. The project's specific objectives are:

• Identify and attract partners and resources to implement the proposed actions.
• Provide training for the port's technical staff to face these challenges.

In addition, this project will serve as a basis for implementing mitigation and adaptation actions to meet the Paris Agreement's goals and align with the current framework to face climate change. It will also support the efforts to compensate for the negative impacts of implementing the SUAPE Harbour and the industrial area's infrastructure.

Since its inception, the project has supported the primary vector of economic growth in Pernambuco state, the Governor Eraldo Gueiros Harbour Industrial Complex region. Among various actions, its support is through consultancies that have allowed relevant diagnoses linked to the region's rich historical heritage, the marine space near the port and the construction of the necessary elements for creating a future geopark.
