Intergenerational dialogue

On 25 January 2023 on the occasion of the International Day of Women in Multilateralism, UNESCO held an intergenerational dialogue between UNESCO ambassadors and young professionals to inspire a new generation of women leaders
Intergenerational Dialogue

The intergenerational dialogues echo the commitment of UNESCO’s Global Priority Gender Equality by ensuring women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life, and responds to the call of the UN Secretary General’s Report Our Common Agenda, to create a more effective, inclusive and networked multilateralism putting women and girls at the centre of sustainable development. The intergenerational dialogues also respond to the call of the UNESCO Youth Forum 2021 for the integration of youth in the decision-making processes.

Programme

The event will take place in presential at UNESCO Headquarters on 25 January, from 15h00 to 17h30 CET.

Video Message

Message from Jessica Mongkhoun, representative of France at the 12th UNESCO Youth Forum, for the intergenerational dialogue organized on the occasion of the 2023 edition of the International Day of Women in Multilateralism.

Why is it important?

Women remain underrepresented in ambassadorship and global governance positions, standing at around 1.6% of heads of states and 21.6% ambassadors around the world. Sweden and Canada are the only countries in the 40 biggest economies to have 50% of ambassadors posts being held by women (2022 Women in Diplomacy Index).
