The Mid-term Progress Reports of SDG 4 in China

UNESCO, as entrusted to lead and coordinate the Education 2030 Agenda, which is part of a global movement to eradicate poverty through 17 SDGs by 2030, has been providing guidance and support for the implementation of this ambitious goal and 10 targets in its Member States in East Asia.

In 2023, with UNESCO’s technical and financial support, the countries covered by UNESCO Beijing have produced the Mid-term SDG 4 National Progress reports to take stock and assess progress made since 2016 and design strategies to achieve key targets by 2023.  The reports analyze the country context, challenges and opportunities and provides policy recommendations, calling for actions to enhance the progress monitoring of the 10 targets through data and benchmarks, and to enhance efforts to achieve SDG 4 targets by 2030. 

It is evident that the countries have made significant progress since 2016 in strengthening resilience and enhancing capacities of national systems to serve all learners with lens of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. The Mid-Term SDG 4 National Reports will be integrated into the Regional Report for Asia and the Pacific to be released soon.
