UNESCO in Mexico collaborates with the Secretariat of Education of Guanajuato (SEG) in the establishment of the Public Policy Innovation Laboratory to promote and increase the development of scientific studies and projects on educational innovation by higher education institutions, research networks, and civil society organizations that contribute to the educational state’s priorities.

The new collaboration was formalized with the signing of an agreement on October 13, 2023, by Jorge Enrique Hernández Meza, Secretary of Education of Guanajuato, and Andrés Morales, UNESCO Representative in Mexico.

Through this agreement, UNESCO Mexico supports the SEG in generating evidence on best educational practices, identifying deficiencies in processes, and disseminating valuable knowledge that will enable Guanajuato to progress in the consolidation of the state's educational system, which has historically been one of the most innovative in the country.

This collaboration contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Quality Education, as delineated in the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations, and is aligned with the priorities of the Social Pact for Education in Guanajuato. These priorities involve the reintegration of all students into the educational system, the recovery of lost learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the recognition of the role of teachers, the shared responsibility of parents in education, and peaceful school coexistence.

The Public Policy Innovation Laboratory and the Social Pact for Education represent a response from Guanajuato to UNESCO's urgent call for transforming education. This transformation aims to equip children, adolescents, and young people with the skills to face an increasingly complex world. It calls upon all sectors of society to Reimagine our futures together, making them fairer, more democratic, peaceful, and sustainable.
