UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Bureau in Chile and the Ministry of Education of Chile, after the Seventh International Conference on Adult Education (CONFINTEA VII) in Marrakech, will organize a regional conference on November 14, 2023 in Santiago, Chile. This meeting aims to promote the priority areas of the Marrakech Framework for Action (MFA) and discuss regional actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

CONFINTEA VII, held from June 15 to 17, 2022, established the MFA, which defines priority areas to ensure equitable learning opportunities in all education contexts for youth and adults. Member States agreed to improve governance, quality, and investment in youth and adult education, focusing on inclusion and gender equality.

For Latin America and the Caribbean, it is essential to strengthen the institutional and financial education of young and adult people. Ministries of Education must allocate budgets and establish partnerships to implement flexible offerings and accreditation mechanisms.

The conference in Santiago will allow relevant actors in the field of lifelong learning and the education of young and adult people to engage in in-depth discussions, drawing on distinctive national experiences and perspectives. Furthermore, this conference is expected to generate renewed momentum for regional cooperation and the exchange of best practices, consolidating the position of Latin America and the Caribbean in the global adult education stage.

Additionally, the conference in Santiago will serve as a platform to assess the progress made since CONFINTEA VII and to identify areas of opportunity and ongoing challenges in the region. Government representatives, education experts, civil society organizations, and other key actors are expected to share their experiences, achievements, and lessons learned. This regional synergy will not only strengthen the individual efforts of each country; it will also foster a unified and collaborative vision for the future of young and adult people's education in Latin America and the Caribbean.
