Simeon II of Bulgaria presents a preview of his autobiography at UNESCO

On 22 October, Simeon II of Bulgaria, Former Prime Minister, presented a preview of his autobiography entitled “Un destin singulier” at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. The event, which was organized by the Permanent Delegation of Bulgaria to UNESCO under the patronage of Director-General, Irina Bokova, was attended by the Chairperson of the Executive Board, prominent French and Bulgarian intellectuals, public figures and Permanent Delegates of Member States to UNESCO.

“UNESCO is honored to welcome today an extraordinary man, whose personal and political history is also the history of a people, a country and a continent,” declared the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova.

“This memoir is a reminder of what helps a people stay united and stable despite the vicissitudes of life,” said the Director-General. “In our multicultural societies, mutual understanding and knowledge of other cultures also requires the knowledge of our own history, our own complexity - and to make peace with others, we must be at peace with ourselves,” she continued.

“I am very pleased that my book was presented at UNESCO, the house of peace, the house of culture, dialogue and respect for otherness,” said Simeon II, wishing the best for UNESCO "a beacon of the world's cultures".

The autobiography will be officially released in Bulgaria on 28 October.
