UNESCO in Action for Gender Equality 2022-2023

Providing a roadmap for gender-transformative work across UNESCO’s mandate
UNESCO in Action for Gender Equality 2022-2023

Summary

With persistent threats around the world of a backlash against women and girls’ basic human rights, UNESCO is working at the global level and at the country level to apply its mandate and vision to advance gender equality.

The report UNESCO in Action for Gender Equality 2022-2023 is the third edition of a series designed to monitor the implementation of Global Priority Gender Equality. It presents key data, best practices and lessons learned to show how UNESCO and its partners have provided concrete and effective solutions during the 2022-2023 biennium to advance gender equality by reducing inequalities in and through education; empowering women in science and technology for environmental action; promoting inclusion and combatting gender-based violence; bridging the digital gender divide and supporting women’s empowerment in crisis, emergency and early recovery contexts.

This third edition of the report goes a step further and provides a roadmap of UNESCO’s vision for gender-transformative work for broadening interventions and improving, multiplying and strengthening gender related results and impact, particularly at grassroots level.

This publication tells us how far we have come; but, more fundamentally, it warns us of the many efforts we still have to make. Let’s not wait 300 more years to react.
