UNESCO Director-General condemns killing of journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar in Pakistan
Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has condemned killing of journalist Jan Mohammad Mahar in the city of Sukkur in Pakistan, on 13 August.

I condemn the killing of Jan Mohammad Mahar. Pakistani authorities must investigate this attack and bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.

Mahar was a senior journalist and bureau chief at the Kawish Television Network in Sukkur. He was leaving the channel’s premises when he was ambushed inside his car and shot multiple times. The journalist died from his wounds in hospital.
UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
