UNESCO Director-General deplores the death of journalist Mohammad Balousha in Palestine

Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, has deplored the death of media worker Mohammad Balousha in Palestine on 17 October 2023.

I deplore the death of Mohammad Balousha. I reiterate my call for the respect of the UN Security Council Resolution 2222/2015 on the protection of journalists, media professionals and associated personnel as civilians in situations of conflict and call for a full independent investigation into the circumstances of his death.

Mohammad Balousha was the director of the TV channel Palestine Today, and was reportedly killed in an airstrike. 

UNESCO promotes the safety of journalists through global awareness-raising, capacity building and by coordinating the implementation of the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity.
