A safe learning environment empowers learners to learn better, enjoy their education journey, and achieve their academic goals smoothly free from violence, with fit physical and mental health, and better general well-being.

UNESCO’s O3 project in collaboration with the President's Office, Regional Administration and Local Government Tanzania (PO-RALG) organized a consultation and planning meeting to discuss the implementation modality for piloting the "Integrated safe school model" using a whole school approach in primary and secondary schools in Tanzania.

This initiative will target 40 schools in 5 regions in Tanzania mainland and will include components such as: teaching of life skills-based SRH, HIV/AIDS, Gender Based Violence; Connect with Respect, Guidance & Counselling services, establishment of safety & security desks, mental health education, school meals, introduction of pupils' health record cards, introduction of safe space clubs and sensitization of Parents Teachers Associations (PTA).

The outcomes derived from the pilot study will contribute to establishing standards for an integrated safe school model that will be applied to other schools
