UNESCO Joins Whisper®’s mission to #KeepGirlsInSchool to ensure girls don’t miss out on a promising future

UNESCO and Whisper come together to #KeepGirlsInSchool

Whisper®, India’s leading feminine care brand has come together with UNESCO in a breakthrough partnership to raise awareness and educate girls on Menstrual Hygiene Management under its flagship programme #KeepGirlsInSchool.

In an effort to help young girls achieve their full potential, the movement begins with shedding light on the impact of 23 million girls dropping out of school - leading to 23 million unfulfilled dreams - due to lack of period education and protection.

As part of the #KeepGirlsInSchool movement, P&G-Whisper and UNESCO New Delhi have come together to develop a puberty education module in school curriculums with a vision to help young women achieve their full potential.

Lack of awareness makes for a major problem in India’s menstrual health management and despite several efforts, menstruation remains a subject of gender disparity. Several studies show that 71% of adolescent girls remain unaware about menstruation until they get their first period, adversely affecting their morale.

During puberty and the start of menstruation, a girl’s confidence and self-esteem can be affected in many different ways, sometimes even leading to school drop-out. UNESCO and Whisper are on a mission to change that.

The #KeepGirlsInSchool initiative builds on our strong commitment to ensuring everyone’s fundamental right to education. Investing in girls’ education is an investment for society as a whole

The #KeepGirlsInSchool project will entail training school teachers and engaging with National and State education authorities to ensure the incorporation of the co-developed module on puberty education as part of the school curriculum. To further the project’s mission to spur menstrual hygiene awareness, UNESCO will enhance partnership with key government and non-government institutions to increase accessibility of menstrual hygiene management in school and work places.

Girls’ education is a step towards an inclusive and equitable world and through this project, UNESCO New Delhi hopes to drive a positive change to ensure every girl is empowered to follow her dreams and achieve her full potential.
