UNESCO supports Ukraine’s 2022 University admission campaign

This summer, like many students in the rest of the world, high school graduates in Ukraine are busy preparing to pursue their dreams of higher education.

Due to the ongoing war, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has adjusted their 2022 university admission campaign by introducing the National Multidisciplinary Test (NMT). The NMT test will consist of three subjects: Ukrainian language, Mathematics and the History of Ukraine and will be conducted online for students both inside and outside of Ukraine between July and September.

With UNICEF and the Swiss project DECIDE, UNESCO supports the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the 2022 University admission campaign. Through its Emergency Participation Programme, UNESCO financially supported the development of the prototype system for the NMT, which facilitates the smooth operationalization of the campaign and benefits the high school graduates of 2022.

As of 18 July, more than 206,000 students confirmed their participation to the main session of the NMT, which will be held from 18 July to 10 August. More than 181,000 will take the test from within Ukraine, and approximately 25,000 from abroad, including Poland, Germany and Hungary. Meanwhile, more than 25,000 students will participate in the special sessions of the NMT in August and September.

“Applicants who have finished 11th grade and want to enter higher education in Ukraine will have this opportunity. In the EU, they will be able to take a national multidisciplinary test either in the capitals of European countries or on the basis of universities in these countries,” said Ukraine’s’ Minister of Education and Science Serhiy Shkarlet.

For the future of all societies, higher education creates and disseminates knowledge which inspires generations to come. UNESCO, as the only United Nations agency with a mandate in higher education, works with member states to ensure quality higher education opportunities are available to everyone, including those affected by conflicts and crises as a way for countries to build back better.
