Our cultural and natural heritage is our legacy from the past that we pass on to future generations.

Across Asia and the Pacific, there are over 250 World Heritage sites, ranging from the Great Barrier Reef to the magnificent ruins of Angkor and the fabled city of Samarkand. UNESCO facilitates both local participation and international cooperation to safeguard these irreplaceable sites.

UNESCO Bangkok supports Member States to identify and protect sites considered to be of outstanding value to humanity, resulting in milestones such as the inscription of Myanmar's first World Heritage property. We support sustainable conservation and management of sites including Luong Prabang, the Plain of Jars and Vat Phou (Lao PDR); the Pyu Ancient Cities, Bagan and Hkakabo Razi Landscape (Myanmar); and Ayutthaya and Sukhothai (Thailand). UNESCO builds long-term technical capacity through training professionals and hands-on technicians, developing guidelines, and conducting on-site projects in conserving monuments and archaeological landscapes, reducing disaster risks, promoting sustainable tourism and enhancing local livelihoods.
