I4T Global Knowledge Network

A community of leading international think tanks and research centers supported by UNESCO to foster rigorous research on initiatives for the better governance of digital platforms.

To follow up on the implementation of the Guidelines for the governance of digital platforms worldwide, UNESCO is also supporting the development of the “I4T Global Knowledge Network”, a group of more than 50 international think tanks and research centers in areas of digital and data policy. The I4T Global Knowledge Network serves as a trusted interface, offering independent research and observations on the implementation of the Guidelines, and ensuring a human-right respecting and multistakeholder approach on the governance of digital platforms.

The Launch of the I4T Global Knowledge Network

From 21 to 22 February 2024, exactly one year after UNESCO’s “Internet for Trust” conference, 70 international research and think tanks centers on digital and data policy gathered for a hybrid seminar at UNESCO Headquarters to establish a network to help regulators in UN Member States better shape and enforce their governance of digital platforms.

The seminar provided an opportunity to validate the network's operating model and its 2024 roadmap of events and publications. It also served as a Brazil T20 2024 side-event, for the inclusive digital transformation task force

In the first year, the I4T Global Knowledge Network will focus on identifying key regulatory and related governance issues at two interrelated levels. At a general level, it will identify regulatory and governance issues around digital networks and platforms. More specifically, it will focus on issues of internet and platform regulation tied to the 2024 “super elections”.
