Humanities, Arts and Society Project
In a constantly changing world faced by new challenges that have been increasingly affecting societies subject to social and economic conflict, ecological transformation, and questions of multiculturalism, pluralism, and human rights, what are the roles of the arts and artists? Art and artists bridge the gaps between people, continents, cultures, civilizations, and time.
The World Humanities Conference
Gathered at Liège in 2017 upon the call launched by International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH) and UNESCO, the Conference was intended to establish a midterm agenda to face contemporary epistemological and societal challenges from the perspective of the contribution of the humanities. In that context, CIPSH and UNESCO-MOST assigned Mémoire de l’Avenir to launch the Arts and Society Project, with the mission to establish a worldwide movement of artists whose creative work will demonstrate the impact of the arts and of creativity on society. The Global Chinese Arts and Culture Society has also joined this project in 2018.
The Arts and Society Project
It conceives new ways of teaching the humanities, with an interdisciplinary approach, combining all domains of science and the humanities, including philosophy, history, literature and languages, arts and letters, as well as non-academic knowledge. The Humanities, Arts and Society Project represents the beginning of a global movement of artists reflecting upon the impact of creativity as an essential factor to access knowledge and universal values and principles and to connect worldwide problems with emerging solutions.
Within this project, the Humanities, Arts and Society Magazine is being created. Conceived as a magazine for the broadest possible range of readers, HAS offers a space for staging the most creative, enlightening, imaginative, and socially relevant interactions of the humanities and the arts.
The goal of HAS Magazine is to discuss pressing topics through the analysis of a wide range of themes in the humanities, the social sciences, and the arts, in order to achieve a positive change in society and actual progress in cultural exchange and multi-disciplinary collaboration. The published articles include scholarly papers, experimental essays, reviews, critiques, interviews, video and photo reportage, and news from scholars, researchers, critics, practicing artists, and any interested parties who would like to be part of the project. The editorial committee is constituted by members of UNESCO's MOST Programme, the International Council for Philosophy and Human Sciences (CIPSH), and Mémoire de l’Avenir.
