Farquharson’s Journal

A handwritten diary by Charles Farquharson, planter, and owner of the cotton growing Prospect Hill Plantation, located on the east side of Watlings Island (now known as San Salvador) records the day-to-day happenings on the plantation from 1 January, 1831 to 31 December, 1832. As most plantation owners were absentee landlords, this journal from the lived experience of an owner provides unique insights into plantation life.
