Finland has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting inclusive and equitable quality education by signing an agreement to allocate 1.2 million Euros to UNESCO's Capacity development for Education (CapED) Programme for the next two years. Finland's support for CapED dates back two decades, as one of its founding donors.

The CapED Programme currently operates in 20 of the world's least developed countries, assisting them in policy formulation and planning to advance equal access to quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. Finland's continuous commitment has played a pivotal role in helping these nations develop robust education policies, gender-sensitive curricula, high-quality teaching staff, and improved access to vocational training.

Over the past 20 years, Finland's contribution to the Programme has exceeded US$ 17 million, accounting for 13.5% of the US$ 128 million received by CapED to date. Finland's long-standing support aligns with that of other Nordic partners, forming a strategic and enduring partnership supported by flexible, multi-year funding. This funding model enables CapED to plan for long-term results while remaining adaptable to evolving needs and priorities, ultimately enhancing its impact.

The CapED Programme is currently financed by Finland, France, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden.
