In commemorating the 17th anniversary of Nepal's Comprehensive Peace Accord, UNESCO amplified the crucial role of inclusive dialogue in fostering enduring peace. The transformative journey from the tumultuous Maoist movement in 1996 to the landmark accord in 2006 signified Nepal's commitment to cease hostilities, paving the way for dialogue and negotiations.

The Nepal Dialogues Summit 2023, held on November 20-21, brought together thirty-four civil society organizations with extensive experience in conflict and peacebuilding. This annual summit, a collaborative effort between GIZ Nepal, Nepal Dialogues Initiative and UNESCO, served as a pivotal platform for comprehensive discussions.

Inclusivity is key to effective dialogue and the summit actively engaged all stakeholders, ensuring representation from diverse groups, including grassroots organizations, women, youth, and minorities. By learning from best practices globally, the collective understanding of effective strategies for promoting inclusive dialogue is enhanced.

UNESCO's ‘Framework for Enabling Intercultural Dialogue,’ focuses on the skills, structures, and values necessary for effective intercultural dialogue. Initiatives like "We Need to Talk" highlight the benefits of investing in dialogue for peace, conflict prevention, and human rights.

UNESCO will continue to work closely with partners to contribute to the global advancement of inclusive dialogue and peacebuilding. Join the conversation and learn more about our work, as we collectively strive for a more peaceful world through open and inclusive discussions.
