With the participation of the community and interested entities, UNESCO in Brazil promoted, in partnership with the Fundação Florestal, and with the support of the municipalities of Caraguatatuba, São Sebastião, and Ubatuba, three Debate Journeys on the 16th, 17th and 18th of August, respectively. The initiative, developed to expand dialogue with society, discussed aspects related to the development of the Museum Island project on the North Coast of São Paulo, the first museum island in Brazil.

This was the second round of the days held for sharing and dialogue with the municipalities in the region of the north coast of São Paulo: Caraguatatuba, São Sebastião, and Ubatuba. The purpose of these meetings is to listen to proposals, suggestions, and expectations from local institutions, traditional communities, and civil society in general.

The first Debate Journey, in Ilhabela, was held on June 14 and 15, and had the participation of 60 people in both days. The three Journeys held in August, in Caraguatatuba, São Sebastião and Ubatuba, had 149 participants. The balance is very positive, with the active participation of more than 200 people in the dialogues of the Debate Journeys.

To count on this important participation in the North Coast of São Paulo, UNESCO launched public calls and an invitation for interested people to attend discussions on the mission, objectives, and values of the museum, which is being developed by UNESCO, in partnership with the Fundação Florestal of São Paulo. The project is aimed at valuing the cultural and natural heritage of the North Coast and the sustainable practices of the region's traditional peoples.

The participation of the society of the North Coast in the Debate Journeys is very important for the development of the project of the first museum-island in Brazil by UNESCO. We heard suggestions and opinions for collective construction of the IlhaMuseu, which should express the cultural and environmental riches of the region, as well as the knowledge of the traditional communities of the North Coast of São Paulo

said the coordinator of the UNESCO in Brazil Culture Sector, Isabel de Paula.
