Transforming lives through Education
Education transforms lives and is at the heart of UNESCO’s mission to build peace, eradicate poverty and drive sustainable development.
UNESCO’s education mandate covers all aspects of education. UNESCO is the custodian agency for Sustainable Development Goal 4, guided by the Education 2030 Framework for Action (FFA).
The UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen provides regional leadership in education, and support to Member States in strengthening education systems and responding to contemporary global challenges such as the COVID19 pandemic and climate change-related challenges. UNESCO’s underlying principle in education is to advance gender equality in and through education.
UNESCO reaffirms a humanistic and holistic vision of education as fundamental to personal and socio-economic development.
In 2022, The UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen provided technical support to Member States within the framework of the Transforming Education Summit (TES) and the national consultations that took place ahead of the pre-summit in UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and the Summit in New York in September. Country transformative commitments and initiatives launched at the summit will accelerate efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) and the Office for the Gulf States and Yemen is closely following up with Member States.
